Case Studies
Our case studies showcase how GRI Investigative Group delivers clear, results-driven support in civil, criminal, and family law matters. From uncovering key evidence to locating crucial witnesses, each case reflects our commitment to thorough and ethical investigations.
Criminal
Case Study: Juvenile Self-Defense Homicide
GRI was retained by a defense attorney representing a juvenile charged with first-degree murder after acting in self-defense against a drug dealer and gang member who had previously stabbed him and fired multiple shots at the client on that day. Noticing a lack of witness interviews in the discovery, our team conducted an on-site investigation and uncovered several previously unidentified witnesses, some providing exculpatory evidence. Our detailed report helped the attorney secure a favorable outcome—time served—and the client, now an adult, is attending college and moving forward with his life.
Domestic
Case Study: Child Custody and Parental Misconduct
GRI was retained by a client going through a difficult divorce involving custody of her minor children. She had concerns that the father was involved in drug dealing during his visitation periods. Over an eight-week investigation, our team conducted surveillance and captured video evidence of the father engaging in drug transactions while the children were present at various locations. Although law enforcement later conducted a raid on his property, GRI was not involved in that action. The evidence we gathered was submitted to the client’s attorney, helping secure a favorable custody ruling in family court.
Domestic
Case Study: Hidden Income in Divorce and Support Dispute
GRI was retained by a client involved in a contentious divorce with minor children. The father claimed in court that he was unemployed, unable to pay spousal support, and struggling to meet child support obligations. Based on a tip that he was working "under the table", our team conducted surveillance and confirmed he was working full-time at construction sites Monday through Saturday. We documented the activity and submitted actionable evidence to the client’s attorney. As a result, the court issued a favorable order for our client, and the father was reprimanded by the judge for providing false information.
Civil Case
Case Study: Real Estate Dispute and False Statement to the Court
GRI was retained by a client involved in a breach of contract lawsuit related to a real estate transaction. The defendant claimed he was unemployed, destitute, and living out of his vehicle to avoid selling his interest in the property. Over a four-month surveillance period, our team documented that he was, in fact, living with others and actively employed. We submitted our findings to the client’s attorney and provided expert testimony at trial. Based on our investigation and testimony, the jury ruled in favor of our client.
Civil Case
Case Study: Evasive Service of Restraining Order
GRI was retained by a client who had been assaulted by her son’s girlfriend and was seeking to enforce a restraining order. Multiple prior attempts by law enforcement and process servers to serve the defendant had failed, as she was actively avoiding service and the son was unwilling to help. With no reliable address for the defendant, our team acted on a tip that the son planned to meet the girlfriend at a local mall. Through discreet surveillance, we tracked the son to the location and successfully served the defendant. As a result of our efforts, the client was granted a three-year restraining order.
